Al THOWARAH

The area is also well known for the Al Thowarah hot springs which can be found a few kilometres beyond the fort. The natural spring water is channelled into the falaj system to irrigate the surrounding date plantations, and you can dip your toe or have a paddle in the run-off water. There’s a carpark and picnic facilities, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists.





The spring waters are as warm as bathwater.

Nakhal fort was built in the 17th century and is totally restored. This fort was the headquarter of the Ya'aruba tribe and considered impregnable.Nakhal Fort is one of the most spectacular forts in the world, dramatically located at the edge of the Jebel Akhdar Mountains in northwest Oman.

Nakhal
Nakhal is 30 kilometres inland from Barka and about 100 kilometres from Muscat. The town has an imposing restored fort set on a hill, and if you climb to the top of the watchtowers you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and town. Inside the fort visitors can see the prison, kitchen, living quarters of the Wali (leader) and the male and female majlis.
